Connect 2 PCs via USB

Connect 2 PCs to Transfer Data using USB Cable

You need a small piece of hardware to get started. It is called a USB to USB bridged cable or a USB- USB networking cable. It is a long wire with two male USB connectors on both ends and a small communication circuit in the middle. Before buying it, check that you are getting a USB 2.0 cable, it will offer better speeds than the older USB 1.1 cables. You can get these cables at NewEgg.com or at Buy.com for around $20.

You can use this cable in either a normal network mode or just link mode – to connect the two PCs for simple file transfers. We will do the latter. You will get the drivers for the cable in a CD bundled with it. Install the Data / Link mode drivers on both computers and then connect your cable to both the PCs. If all goes well, Windows should reognize both the PCs connected together. You can check that out on the Hardware Device Manager. Now just open the software in the CD which you installed on both computers. You should see both the Host and the Remote PC’s connected together. You can simply drag-and-drop or copy the files from one PC to another.

You can also connect the cable in networking mode and configure the two computers on a shared network using a procedure very similar to the one we had shown before using Ethernet cables.
